JOHN/HUAI-MIN ZHANG

Dr. John/Huai-Min Zhang is a Supervisory Oceanographer, serving as the Section Chief for NOAA NCEI’s Ocean Surface Section/Program, with its scope encompassing both surface marine meteorological and oceanographic datasets including SST, with observations from both satellite and in-situ platforms. He led an end-to-end process on the research and development, research-to-operation transition/implementation, and operational monitoring of a global surface observing system for climate SST. 

John holds a PhD in Oceanography with a professional background in oceanography and meteorology. His research interests fall within air-sea interaction.

John became involved in GHRSST through leading the Regional Data Assembly Centres.

He has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed publications in Science, Nature, J. Climate, Int’l J. Climatology, Global Planetary Change, BAMS, J. Atmos. Oceanic Tech., JGR-Ocean, JGR-Atmos., GRL, J. Phys. Oceanogr., J. Mar. Res., among others.
